Athlete Blog: Anthony Stover

Hey What’s up it’s your boy Anthony Stover. Tthis is my first time ever blogging so don’t judge me haha.

I’m getting ready to start summer school at UCLA where I will be playing basketball. The recruiting process was tough but it came down to UCLA. I know I made the right choice. Go Bruins!

Lately i’ve been working out countless hours to get ready to play on a high lever division one team. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays you can find me sprinting, jumping and lunging up the Santa Monica stairs. My trainer Olin and I get up at 9 and get to the stairs. To get started i run a thing Olin likes to call figure 8s (though its not quite the shape).

I run to the cement stairs, go down them, run to the wood stair, run up them, run back down the wood stairs and up the hill that leads me back to the beginning. After my second figure 8 Olin says “we’re done with the warm up”. I follow up my “warm up” with going up the stairs 10-15 in different ways. First 5 are lunges, then some hops, ending with sprints while being pulled back by Olin with a band.

Tuesdays and Thursdays you can find me at Will Rogers memorial beach running in the sand. Olin has me there doing jumps, skips and more sprints. Each morning work out is followed by a protein filled lunch and then a trip to the weight room.

We make our way over to my high school where we have access to the gym and weight room. Work on shoulder, arms, chest and abs. As you can probably guess by the time i get home i am worn out. So i usually take a nap, wake up and call some friends to chill. Its always fun to hang out with a group of friends to relax after a long day of working out. But more often than not I find myself BBMing my friend Darius Morris and talk about going out but never do. He is getting ready for his freshman year at Michigan and his workouts are just as hard as mine. Either I’m talking to Darius or spending hours talking to a friend about my workouts and telling her how hard they are. She’s very supportive and tells me to keep on pushing.

Saturdays and Sundays I ride up to Pasadena with my dad where he runs training sessions and traveling team practices for the program BTI. When i’m up there i get in a basketball workout where I get up a lot of shots and work on my post moves.

Saturday night I might find a small party to go to and dance it up. I actually love to dance at parties. Not something you see a lot of 6′10″ people doing. Sunday nights is when i sit at home and relax, watch some T.V. and prepare for another long week. Soon I will be moving on ucla campus where I’ll be taking summer school classes and my workout schedule will change again.

I’m looking forward to working with the training staff and coaches at UCLA. I can’t wait to put on that bruin jersey and get on the floor of Pauley Pavilion. Its a hard but exciting process of getting to that point.
