Rumors: Could The Phillies Trade Rollins?
June 30, 2009 by Scouting The Sports · 48 Comments
Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins, who turned 30 during the off-season, is having a dreadful year now and you begin to wonder. The franchise isn’t rife with alternatives, however. Jason Donald was a hot prospect, but he cooled at the triple-A level and is now recovering from knee surgery. Some in the organization look at him and think “utility man.” A great-fielding Venezuelan prospect named Freddy Galvis is at single-A Lakewood, but he’s just 19, skinny as 6 o’clock, and will take a few years. For the moment, and perhaps well beyond, Rollins is going to be the one they rise or fall with at shortstop. Next season is the last guaranteed year of his contract, and, in all probability, Rollins wouldn’t be happy entering 2010 under that circumstance. Decision time looms. – Philadelphia Inquirer
Rumors: Raptors Chris Bosh to Rockets?
June 30, 2009 by Scouting The Sports · 201 Comments
Once the Toronto Raptors figure out that Chris Bosh will be departing via free agency a year from now, they may be inclined to trade him this summer. Their choice is to trade him to the Rockets now and get something in return, or wait until he signs with the Rockets a year from now and get nothing. If they decide to deal him, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey almost certainly would like to be at the front of the line. He’s the best option for the Rockets filling that huge hole in the middle of their roster caused by the possible absence of Yao Ming for next season or longer. – Houston Chronicle
Carlos Beltran Out For The Season?
June 30, 2009 by Scouting The Sports · 53 Comments
The Mets confirmed yesterday that Carlos Beltran was in Vail, Colo., for a second opinion on his ailing right knee, this one from noted orthopedic surgeon Richard Steadman. The ominous aspect of that for Beltran and the Mets is that Steadman is the inventor of microfracture knee surgery, an operation that — if he opts to have it — could sideline Beltran for the rest of the season, and potentially jeopardize his career.
Rumors: Is Yao’s Career In Jeopardy
June 29, 2009 by ptguard611 · 62 Comments
The Rockets and Yao’s reps are frightened over his future, and the concern is the most base of all: Does Yao Ming ever play again?…Rest assured, Houston has long been fearful that Yao’s responsibilities to the Chinese national team were rapidly contributing to his breakdown, and perhaps they’ve finally been met. Yao wouldn’t have missed the Beijing Olympics for the world, but it was clear he wasn’t fully healed in those Games. The Rockets paid a price for his nationalism, his obligation and now the darkest fears are close to confirmation: It isn’t just a season on the brink for Yao Ming, but perhaps a career. –Yahoo Sports
